Braxton Berrios Undergoes Surgery for Torn ACL, Season in Jeopardy

New York, NY – New York Jets wide receiver Braxton Berrios underwent successful surgery on Monday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee, the team announced Tuesday.

Injury Details

Berrios sustained the injury during the Jets’ preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday. He was attempting to catch a pass over the middle when he was hit hard by Eagles safety Marcus Epps, causing his knee to buckle inward.

Surgery and Prognosis

The surgery, performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, was considered a success, according to the Jets. However, Berrios is expected to miss the entire 2023 season as he recovers from the injury.

“We feel terrible for Braxton,” said Jets head coach Robert Saleh. “He’s a great player and a great teammate, and we know how much this means to him.”

Impact on the Jets

Berrios’ absence will be a significant blow to the Jets’ offense. He was expected to play a key role as a slot receiver and return specialist.

The Jets have several other receivers who could fill in for Berrios, including Elijah Moore, Corey Davis, and Garrett Wilson. However, Berrios’ combination of experience and versatility will be difficult to replace.

Outlook

Berrios is expected to make a full recovery from his injury. He is likely to begin rehabilitation exercises in the coming weeks, with the goal of returning to the field in time for the 2024 season.

The Jets will continue their preseason schedule on Saturday against the Cleveland Browns. They will open the regular season on September 10th against the Baltimore Ravens.
