ASU Men’s Basketball Pulls Away From GCU Before Electric Crowd
Tempe, AZ – Arizona State University’s (ASU) men’s basketball team rallied from behind to defeat Grand Canyon University (GCU) 85-76 in a thrilling game at Desert Financial Arena on Thursday night.
Dominant Second Half Performance
Trailing by five points at halftime (42-37), ASU came out firing in the second half. They held GCU to just 34 points in the final 20 minutes while shooting 50% from the field.
Marreon Jackson Leads the Way
Marreon Jackson led all scorers with 22 points, including a crucial three-pointer late in the second half that put ASU up by eight points.
“We had a slow start, but we knew we had to pick it up in the second half,” said Jackson. “We defended better and hit our shots, and we ended up getting the win.”
GCU’s Strong Start
GCU started the game strong, shooting 50% from the field in the first half and building a 10-point lead.
“We played well in the first half, but we couldn’t keep it up,” said GCU head coach Bryce Drew. “ASU is a good team, and they played better than us in the second half.”
Electric Atmosphere
The game was played in front of a sold-out crowd of over 14,000 fans, who created an electric atmosphere.
“It was an amazing crowd tonight,” said ASU head coach Bobby Hurley. “They really helped us get going, and I’m proud of our team for responding.”

ASU will next play at home against Stanford on Monday, December 12th. GCU will travel to play at Santa Clara on Saturday, December 10th.
